Not ready for this one!

Today I asked C to do something (pick up her toys) and she responded with, "Why should I?"

I think my reaction told her pretty quickly that this is something she can say to completely irritate mommy, so it quickly moved into standard rotation. Now I am trying not to respond so it will go away. Please tell me it will go away?

Gummy Yum

C got some new flouride rinse at the dentist, which we are to put a few drops on her toothbrush each night. It is bubblegum flavor, which of course she has never had. She calls it gummy yum.

Cute!

Improvisation

I misunderstood C's request to keep the chocolate milk she had been drinking at the coffee shop (our destination of choice on a snowy day), and after it was in the trash, crying quickly ensued. However, we were still a good ways from home and the snow was pounding down, so no time to sit and talk about it. About half way there I noticed that the snivels had stopped and I thought, well that's strange because she has mittens on and can't suck her thumb, so how has she decided to make herself feel better? I turned around and saw this. Had to stop for a photo. That thumb is magic.

Dance party

(c and mommy dancing around the living room while getting ready for the day)

C: "I have my camera and I take pictures of you while you dance."

Me: "I guess I better put pants on."

She couldn't get enough.

Tantrum

C actually threw herself on the ground tonight and kicked her feet while screaming. It was awesome. We have never seen anything like this from her. I don't think she was expecting us to start laughing.

Caution: Pickier Eater Ahead

C used to be such a marvelous, adventuresome eater. Now, everything is "I don't like, I don't want..." before she even tastes it. I know, I know, this is classic, right? But I guess I thought that we had made it this far that maybe we lucked out with the super amazing kid who never goes through that phase. Alas, not so lucky.

She still loves pasta, rice, pork, chicken, and many vegetables, but if things are in an unknown sauce or form (like cubed potatoes), she is not even willing to try. We do have a rule that you need to try, and sometimes this breaks down barriers, but often we get the fake gagging reaction (truly my favorite, I can hardly not laugh out loud because I pulled that ALL the time.) She did surprise us a few nights ago by chowing down on fresh spinach leaves and asking for more. So I guess I cannot complain.

However, as I contemplate tonight's snowy day menu, I can't help but wonder if she will enjoy or reject tomato soup. It seems so innocuous - she likes tomatoes, but you just never know if I will get the dreaded, "Mommy, where is our other dinner?"
